What if we took everybody’s favorite bike and made it a little slacker and little longer? Hell, what if we made it more progressive and coil compatible? And that’s exactly what we did for the Ripmo V2S. Active ingredients include: 29” wheels, berm-defying cornering tendencies, and a love for long rides.

Ripmo Disassembly Tutorial

Added on: Apr 27, 2018

The linkage assemblies on the Ripmo are designed to be easily serviceable. Once every season, you should disassemble your frame, check all components, and replace wear items as needed.

This video walks you through the disassembly process. We have an assembly and bushing service tutorial available here: https://youtu.be/lOU7mwek00A

If you feel uncomfortable performing the work yourself, we recommend heading to your local shop for service.

Ripmo Specific FAQs

All our manuals are available here.

Yes, but the bike is optimized around a 44 mm offset fork. The 51 mm offset fork shortens the trail (the distance between the contact patch and the steering axis), which can cause the front end to feel less stable. We prefer it with 44 mm, but the choice is yours.

You can run any clevis compatible coil shock. Brands that offer a clevis compatible coil shock include DVO, Cane Creek, EXT, Push, and Rockshox. We recommend verifying clevis compatibility with manufacturers before purchase.

As with any aftermarket shock change, we recommend double checking clearance through the whole range of suspension before riding. This can be done by removing the coil spring, mounting the shock, and cycling the suspension through its entire stroke. Not all shocks are compatible with every frame size.

No, the Ripmo cannot be run as a mullet bike. We specifically designed it around 29” wheels.

The Ripmo is designed to accommodate tires up to 2.5” wide.

The largest chainring you can use on an Ripmo is a round 34T.

The Ripmo fits 26 oz Purist water bottle on medium, large and extra large frames and a 22 oz Purist on the small when the Arundel side loader cage is used.

Yes, the max size oval chainring we recommend is a 32T. Not all oval chainrings are the same, so we recommend double checking clearance before installation.

Frame weight of 6.3 lbs / 2.86 kg w/ DPX2, 6.74 lbs / 3.09 kg w/ X2

Complete builds start at 28.2 lbs.

You can find all our torque specs listed here.

The Ripmo V2S has a 180mm post mount rear brake mount. The Ripmo V2 (Bug Zapper Blue, Star Destroyer Gray) has 160mm post mount rear brake mounts.

  • To run a 180mm rotor on the Ripmo V2, you'll use the following Shimano part number: SM-MA-F180P / P2

  • To run a 180mm rotor on Ripmo V2S, you'll use caliper bolts to mount the brake caliper directly to the frame. No adapter needed.

  • To run a 203mm rotor on the Ripmo V2, you'll use the following Shimano part number: SM-MA-F203P / P

  • To run a 203 mm rotor on the Ripmo V2S, you'll use the following Shimano part number: ESMMAF203PPM

For more information, the following is a link to the adaptor chart.

*Please note, the Ripley and Ripmo (carbon or aluminum) are not compatible with rotors larger than 203mm

Bikes with a Sram UDH derailleur hanger require a crankset capable of achieving a 55mm chainline.

55mm chainline cranksets include:

  • Sram Dub Wide Cranksets.
  • Shimano 120 Series Cranksets.
  • A variety of other manufacturers offer 55mm chainline cranksets. Verify with your preferred crankset manufacturer before purchasing and installing.

Check out our Bottom Bracket installation guide for 55mm chainline cranksets here.

Bikes with a Sram UDH derailleur hanger (Ripley V4S and Ripmo V2S) are 55mm chainline. The Exie is an exception to this rule and utilizes 52mm chainline cranksets.

Bikes with the Ibis 142/148 derailleur hanger (AFs and past models) are 52mm chainline. The Hakka MX has a 45-47.5mm chainline depending on the brand/model of the crankset.

While 52mm chainline cranksets with 28T-30T chainrings may clear the frame, it’s best to utilize a crankset capable of achieving the corresponding chainline to your frame. This will ensure the best shift quality and allow the use of larger chain rings. Always double check chainring clearance and fitment prior to riding.

If your Ripmo has a Sram UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) it is considered a Ripmo V2S. Please note the Ripmo V2S uses a different Clevis to Swing Arm Mount kit than the Ripmo V2. You can use our handy guide to help identify your model.

Dropper Post Saddle Height Calculations

Do not try to insert your post deeper than these measurements. Forcing the post can result in a seat tube failure.

IMPORTANT: Before riding, check the saddle to tire clearance with the dropper post fully dropped and the air out of the shock with frame compressed to bottom out.
