At Ibis, we’re all about making sure every rider gets the perfect fit and balanced ride.
In our previous four-size system, 80% of units sold were Medium and Large, fitting riders between 5’5” and 6’0”. Now, with our new five-size system, we’ve introduced an “Extra-Medium.” This new size slots perfectly into the middle of the bell curve.
When selecting a size, if you’re transferring the fit from a previous bike, use top tube length, not reach, unless your previous bike has the same seat angle. Reach can be misleading because it doesn’t account for how different seat tube angles affect your position on the bike. The top tube length provides a more accurate measurement for maintaining your riding position, as it takes into account the changes in seat tube angle that can affect how the bike feels.
For riders between sizes, the new options help you achieve a more tailored fit based on your preferred top tube length or reach. You might now opt for an Extra Medium or stick with a Large, depending on your riding style and fit preference. If you crave stability for high-speed descents or racing, you might size up. But if you love tight, Euro-style corners and have that classic “BMX background,” sizing down could be your jam.
With the latest iterations of the Ripmo and Ripley, we focused on achieving the perfect balance for each size by carefully considering reach, top tube length, and seat tube angle. And because adjusting the seat tube angle forward — most necessary as we go up in sizes — has the largest impact on bike balance, we’ve designed the Ripmo and Ripley with size-specific everything: chainstays, bottom brackets, and suspension kinematics are all tailor-fit to ensure each size rides and feels the same.
