Last Friday was called Black Friday, also known as Buy Nothing Day by some people. This was folllowed by Cyber Monday. Patagonia celebrated in their own style by throwing "a party to celebrate what you already own" at many of their stores. Billed as the antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, "Worn Wear" featured repair clinics to keep your used gear running fresh and released a nice short film showcasing some of their customers.
We at Ibis did nothing for Black Friday or Cyber Monday. We know it's cliché, but we rode our bikes. The calendar skipped over to December this weekend and we were experiencing temperatures that were unseasonable to say the least, 72º F in our part of California, which translates to 22º C in the rest of the solar system. So we exercised our bodies rather than our credit cards.
We decided not to inundate either your email or your senses with offers of great deals. And we're still not going to ask you to buy anything from us. But we do want to make you aware that today is "Giving Tuesday", and with that, we'd like to let you know about a wonderful organization that is doing the right thing.
This inspiring short film shows you the power that a single bicycle can bring to people in sub-Saharan Africa:
Yesterday our friend Fat Cyclist launched an ambitious campaign to raise money for World Bicycle Relief, a campaign he calls the power of 5. We'll let "Fatty" explain it, but how it relates to Ibis is that we are donating a ridiculously pimped out Ripley with SRAM XX1 to the cause. With a mere $5 donation, you enter yourself into a contest where 5 lucky winners will win totally completely utterly decked out bikes from Ibis and 4 other manufacturers (we'll let you log on to see who they are).
As an added bonus, until Dec 31 (when this is officially over) a mysterious donor is MATCHING DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR all donations.
Here is the flyer for the event, click on it to go to Fatty's site, and thanks!
