Super light weight. Buttery-smooth ride. Most surprising is the stiffness in the bottom bracket that transfers power right to the road.

About the Visualiser

Our virtual mechanic is pretty fast. He's also sometimes kind of lazy. He'll swap out frame colors and show you your drivetrain upgrades but he says it takes too long to change brakes and things. He's doing his best but please excuse any irregularities you may notice...

We also really, really recommend that you use the latest version of your favourite web browser. Definitely not IE7 or earlier. Basically, if things look weird here try upgrading your browser.

A Note About the Silk SL

We’ve just introduced two new colors for the Silk SL - Siberian White and Matt Matte. We don’t have the images ready for the visualiser yet, other than this back to front version of a Matt Matte build. We’ll have the new images soon but in the meantime you can check out some images in the gallery.

Silk SL

The 2011 Ibis Silk SL uses a refined layup of high modulus carbon fiber, fine tuning prior year's weight savings and gain in strength. The carbon fiber headcups keep the weight down, resulting in a 58cm frame weight of about 2.2 lbs. The Silk SL is stiff but remarkably smooth riding - what you get is the responsiveness of a large tube aluminium bike combined with the suppleness of a Ti frame. Not only stiff and light but also very strong the Silk SL can survive a 900 pound frontal impact (at the front axle) before a failure of the down tube, stronger than many full-suspension mountain bikes! We also think you’ll find the understated graphics package a refreshing change in a world of gaudy team replicas.

Features of the Silk SL

  • 2.2 lb frame weight (size 58)
  • Low weight and high performance for moderate cost

It's black, you can see the carbon weave but it aint shiny. Bright colours and dozens of logos are the norm for road bikes. The Silk SL doesn't go for any of this monkey business. Clean, simple and understated.

SRAM's Rival group is strong and super light - a perfect match for the Silk SL frame.

We think the Ultegra shifts as good as Dura Ace (or maybe better?). Lots of bang for your buck here.

Shimano Dura Ace. It's been making Italians lose sleep for about 30 years now.
